Yamaha boss: ‘We are ready to challenge for victory in 2015’

Yamaha boss Lin Jarvis is confident that Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo can mount a serious threat to end the recent domination of Marc Marquez and Honda in the MotoGP world championship.

Marquez captured a historic first world title as a rookie in 2013 and last year produced the biggest number of wins in a single season when he defended the crown with a record 13 victories.

But Jarvis believes Yamaha’s star-studded line-up of Rossi and Lorenzo is capable of stopping Marquez from clinching a third successive title in 2015.

Yamaha launched its new 2015 YZR-M1 at a special presentation in Madrid earlier today and Jarvis gave his assessment of the forthcoming season, which kicks off in Qatar on March 29.

Jarvis said: “We are once again fortunate to have two great champions in the team and two of the best riders in the world: Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. Both want to achieve their goal, to win races and to win the title and I am sure they will be committed to work together as Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team Factory riders to make their bikes faster and more competitive to challenge our competitors.

“From our side I can assure our riders that Yamaha Motor and everybody in the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team is committed and focused to provide them all the support they will need to achieve their and our mutual goals. I am very excited to start the new season and we are ready to challenge together for victory in 2015.”

Rossi and Lorenzo are back on track next week when pre-season testing resumes at the Sepang track in Malaysia on February 4.
