Last gasp Lowes goes quickest

Sam Lowes has a new colour scheme this weekend but the Brit is once again at the front of the Moto2 field. Last year’s German Grand Prix was a self confessed disaster for Lowes but he’s gotten this year’s edition off to a flying start by setting the pace ahead of Takaaki Nakagami. Johann Zarco and Tito Rabat were third and fourth fastest.

Lowes is third in the championship and yesterday told MCN that he”‘100% still believe that I can win the championship.” With a 63 point deficit to Zarco he also knows that ending the Frenchman’s run of form will be crucial if he can challenge for the title in the second half of the season.

The pace between Zarco and Lowes was very similar in the session with Rabat looking to be slightly behind in terms of his rhythm but with the champion recovering from a fractured collarbone it was an encouraging performance for the Spaniard.
