Qatar Moto2: Lowes blitzes the opposition on opening night

Brit Sam Lowes has blitzed the opposition on the opening night of the Moto2 season, finishing the evening’s sessions some 0.35 clear of Tito Rabat and Johann Zarco. The only Speed Up machine in a top twelve otherwise composed of Kalex machines, Lowes managed to set a new absolute circuit lap record in the process.

“I was really happy from the first exit and even on the hard tyre I was good,” Lowes told MCN. “I struggled with it last year, and then we put in the soft tyre at the end of the first session. We did a 59.7s but we believe that it will be the race tyre this weekend so I was really happy with that. In the afternoon we used the soft tyre for the whole session and it was really consistent and I could do good times. I used the same front tyre all day and the pace was good so it was a good situation. I could do a load of good laps so I feel really good.”
