Marquez wins thrilling race at Phillip Island

Phillip Island always produces great racing and today was no exception. The podium fight between Marc Marquez, Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Iannone and Valentino Rossi was one of the most thrilling that anybody can remember.

Ultimately it took an unbelievable last lap from Marquez to get to the front of the field but with one second splitting the top four the timing screens didn’t even show just how competitive and thrilling this race was.

The last lap saw Marquez overcome a seven tenths of a second deficit to overtake Lorenzo at the MG Hairpin with Rossi diving past Iannone only for the Ducati rider to out accelerate him and take the final step on the rostrum.

The championship gap now stands at 11 points between Rossi and Lorenzo.
