MotoGP: Redding gets smart in Assen

Scott Redding was able to capitalise with his second ever MotoGP podium on the progress he’s made towards a more professional racer at this weekend’s Dutch TT at Assen.

Keeping his head while many around him lot theirs, the Pramac Ducati rider was impressive to the end of Sunday’s chaotic wet weather race to ensure that he did exactly what he needed to do to – and not to exceed his limits!

Often a victim of hubris during the earlier parts of his career, it was a sign of just how much he’s learned that he was instead able to keep his cool and make his move on Pol Espargaró for the final podium spot when he felt most comfortable – a far departure from the year the pair spent fighting for the Moto2 world title!

“I always try to ride smart, and my crew chief Francesco reminded me before the restart that it might only be twelve laps but it’s a long race. A lot of guys were bam, bam, bam in the opening laps, and I knew there was no way I could go with them!

“I was in my rhythm, and I could have pushed harder and went with them but I didn’t want to. They were at another level, but then I saw them crash and realised I just needed to hold that level. It was quite a clever race for me, because races like that aren’t won by being out of control.”
