MotoGP: Suppo ‘very proud’ of Miller success

Honda MotoGP boss Livio Suppo has admitted to MCN that he’s ‘very proud’ that Honda’s decision to take a gamble on promoting Jack Miller directly from Moto3 to MotoGP has paid off for the firm with his Assen win.

However, with the Aussie able to make the most of treacherous conditions at the Dutch TT for the win, Suppo has also conceded that there’s still work to do before Miller is the real deal.

“I am very proud of Jack today, but he must be proud of himself as well. He did a very good job on a difficult day. He showed last year already that in the rain he is very fast – but last year he was too fast in the wet! This year he’s found a good compromise.

“It doesn’t prove anything more than Honda thought was there though. Honda saw a talent and on Sunday we saw again the talent was there, even though that doesn’t prove that Jack is a top rider yet.

“It will be good for his confidence, because there has been a lot of criticism around him and that has not been easy for him. It will help him to be calmer, and step-by-step he will grow into a better rider.

“The win doesn’t change our plan though. He’s on a three-year program, and this win doesn’t change that. Maybe some more money in the bank for him though!

“It’s too early to say if it means our plan was a good plan. Last year was a rookie season and we didn’t expect anything, but this year we need to see some improvement. The injury at the beginning of the season didn’t help, but we’re on the right path to show that we might have been crazy but not wrong!”
