Thomas Luthi has taken the Garage Plus Interwetten Kalex machine to top of the timesheets on the second day of testing at Losail, as one of a quartet of riders able to dip under the 2:00 mark for the first time at the Qatari test.

Luthi was 0.1 ahead of Jonas Folger at the end of the day, with Brit Sam Lowes another 0.1 back and Takaai Nakagami only 0.007 behind him as the fourth man.

Yesterday’s top finisher Alex Rins was fifth, just outside the two-minute mark with a 2:00.079.

British Moto3 world champion Danny Kent was ninth overall, happy with his progress despite losing the opportunity to go faster in the final session with a bad tyre.

Tomorrow will see the final day of testing at the Qatari track for the intermediate class before next weekend’s opening round, which kicks off on Thursday with an extra day of track action for all three classes.
