Michelin show 2016 tyre identifying colours

Michelin have announced the identifying colours that their new MotoGP tyres will sport for the coming season.

The coloured strips around the edges of the tyres are designed to give spectators an ‘at a glance’ identifier of which compound of tyre a rider is on at any time, as well as helping to differentiate between wet and dry.

The three dry tyre compounds will be identified by a yellow (hard), grey (medium) and white (soft) band.

The new intermediate option will also sport a silver band, while the rain tyres will have blue (soft) and grey (hard) markings.

Working throughout winter testing to radically improve the tyres form the initial first outing in 2015 on them, the French firm have now confirmed the options that will be made available to the riders next week for the first race; although many of them have yet to try the medium compound option that may well prove to be the race tyre at Losail.
