Crutchlow slams social media

Cal Crutchlow has hit out at fans on social media, after his crash out of Sunday’s MotoGP race at Le Mans once again opened a floodgate of abuse towards the LCR Honda rider on Twitter and Facebook.

Suffering from the same problems at Marc Marquez on the satellite machine, Crutchlow admits that he’s been overriding the RCV213 all season. And, with a fine line between performance and the gravel trap, the Isle of Man resident has come off worse rather than better, crashing out of three of the season’s five races so far.

Suffering a seemingly constant stream of abuse in recent weeks, a complete change in fortune from the days when he was by far the series’ most popular Brit rider, he is nonetheless adamant that the abuse he doesn’t affect how he goes about his racing.

“I’m not stupid; I don’t need someone on Twitter to tell me I’ve crashed! But I bet I could do their job better than they can do mine! What do they want me to say after a race though?

“I don’t want to be on the floor, but when it’s my fault I say it is. I don’t know what else they want me to say but the truth. People are entitled to their own opinion, and I get great support – some people like me and some don’t, but it doesn’t really affect me.”

However, despite the weekend’s poor result for Crutchlow, crashing out of ninth place in the race, he was still keen to see some light at the end of the weekend, especially going forward to a track he loves at Mugello.

“We have to look at the positives and I felt that we worked well this weekend. We have to continue to work and we know Honda are working hard for us too. We’ll continue to give them the best information we can and we will try to work together to fix the problems we have.”
