Marquez wants to see MotoGP winglets banned

Marc Marquez has gone on the record to admit that he would like to see the multitude of wings currently in use in MotoGP banned in the future – but won’t stop taking any advantage he can form them until they are banned.

With the Motorsport Manufacturers Association believed to be required to submit a proposal next weekend at Le Mans to restrict their use, the double world champion admitted at Jerez that he isn’t a fan.

“Some people like the wings, some don’t – but for me motorbikes are much better without them. If we start to go a lot with aerodynamics, it will be more difficult to follow riders, more difficult to overtake. It will be like Formula One.

“For safety reasons, too – we saw already in Argentina when Iannone touched me, and if Dani had them in Austin it would have been much worse. Personally I don’t like them, but while we are able to use them we will.

“For me, I would like to see them banned. It’s something I’m using, but because we are allowed. If we don’t stop now it will become more and more, and for overtaking and for racing it will be more difficult. For now, it looks like we’ll be able to use them this season so we must work with them.”
