Qatar Moto3 Grand prix winner Joan Mir has maintained his streak on the first day of the Argentinian Grand Prix, topping the combined times at Termas de Rio Hondo to finish over half a second ahead of his nearest rival.

“I’m very happy today! We have not touched much on the bike compared to Qatar, we are committed everyone giving their best, trying to lower step-by-step the time, although the track was a little dirty. Tomorrow we will continue in this direction and we’ll see if we can improve further.”

Romano Fenati was second, 0.564 back on the Spaniard, with Niccolo Bulega making it two out of three for Italy on the provisional front row of the grid.

John McPhee was fourth, proving that his podium last time out wasn’t just a flash in the pan by heading factory KTM rider Niccolo Antonelli, Juanfran Guevara and a strong run from Darryn Binder, with Aron Canet, Livio Loi and Enea Bastianini rounding out the top ten.
