Moto2: Marquez on top from Oliveira and Pasini

Alex Marquez ruled the roost in the Moto2 class on the opening day at Silverstone after beating KTM’s Miguel Oliveira to the top spot in FP2.

The duo were separated by 0.272sec after the final 45-minute session while Italian Mattia Pasini was just 0.011sec off in third place.

Dominique Aegerter concluded a positive first day fourth quickest after topping the morning session, ahead of the MotoGP-bound duo of Taka Nakagami and Thomas Luthi who rounded out the top six.

Series leader Franco Morbidelli was seventh quickest ahead of Forward Racing’s Lorenzo Baldassari with Simoni Corsi and Luca Marini rounding out the top ten.

British Superbike star Jake Dixon enjoyed a fair first two outings on the Dynavolt Intact machine, making his Grand Prix debut standing in for the injured Marcel Schrotter. The young Brit rounded out the day 30th fastest after missing most of the second session following a crash at turn six. Fellow Brit Tarran Mackenzie was just 0.305sec quicker in 29th
