Moto3: McPhee still without a ride for 2018

British Talent Team Honda rider John McPhee is still without a ride for 2018 despite a strong 2017 season so far, as the Scottish rider waits to hear back from MotoGP bosses on the future of the team set up to run him for this season.

McPhee has had a strong season in 2017 after jumping onto the competitive Honda bike, taking three podiums and sitting sixth in the championship race – but with series bosses Dorna (the people responsible for the team) dragging their heels, he says that he doesn’t have much time left to start looking elsewhere.

Speaking exclusively to MCN, he said: “This is an important result at this stage of the season because I was signed on a one-year deal so I don’t have a contract with the team for 2018. I don’t know when I get any information, because with Dorna it’s a case of being told what it happening rather than me asking.

“After the Qatar race at the start of the year I had offers from Moto2 teams, but I think that because people expected the deal with my British Talent team to continue next year there hasn’t really been much contact since. The ideal scenario is that I stay in this team in Moto3, but if this isn’t possible I would definitely consider moving to Moto2. I need to start talking with teams soon because the rides for next year are filling up fast.”
