MotoGP: Lorenzo powers to top of the times

1 of 1

Jorge Lorenzo has powered to the top of the time sheets at his home MotoGP race in Barcelona this afternoon, demoting FP1 leader Maverick Viñales to second place as he topped the day’s action by a quarter of a second.

Lorenzo was able to set his time at the end of the day on new tyres, but also remains confident that he has the pace on old rubber – something that teammate Valentino Rossi also seems to have despite finishing the day in sixth.

Cal Crutchlow was a surprise third on a good day for the Brits, just ahead of Dani Pedrosa and Scott Redding, both able to make the most of a lack of grip in the afternoon heat.

Hector Barbera, Andrea Iannone, Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso rounded out the top ten, with Eugene Laverty 15th and an upbeat Bradley Smith in 18th, after a day of testing tyre combinations that he believes will stand him in good stead for the rest of the weekend.
