MotoGP: Dovi takes pole in chaotic wet qualifying

1 of 1

Andrea Dovizioso has taken pole position in a chaotic qualifying session at the Dutch TT, with rain meaning that the grid has been turned upside down for tomorrow’s race.

The Ducati rider controlled the session to head Valentino Rossi by nearly three quarters of a second, with Scott Redding a further 0.3 back in third.

Marc Marquez was fourth, tipping off early in the session and stealing a photographer’s scooter to get back just in time for one flying lap. He heads Cal Crutchlow and Yonny Hernandez on the second row.

The Espargaró brothers were side by side on row three, Pol heading up Aleix with Andrea Iannone finishing ninth but demoted to last after his Montmelò crash with Jorge Lorenzo. Danilo Petrucci will instead take the final spot on row three.

Jorge Lorenzo was a distant tenth, struggling in similar conditions to those that have bit him multiple times at the historic circuit. He heads early Q2 crasher Maverick Viñales and Q1 qualifier Hector Barbera.

It was a disastrous day for a number of riders, though, with Bradley Smith in 13th and Dani Pedrosa a distant 15th. Eugene Laverty wills tart just behind him in 16th.
