MotoGP: Iannone fastest on first day at Dutch TT

1 of 1

Andrea Iannone has topped the opening day of action at the Dutch TT, after finishing both the day’s two sessions top of the time sheets at Assen. However, he will start Sunday’s race from the back of the grid regardless, after his penalty from the last round in Barcelona.

Valentino Rossi was a surprise second, making the most of a track he loves while also experimenting with a new chassis on his second Movistar Yamaha. He finished the day only 0.004 behind his fellow Italian.

Marc Marquez was third, 0.129 back on Rossi, with Maverick Viñales, Jorge Lorenzo, and Andrea Dovizioso rounding out the top six.

Scott Redding was the best of the Brits in tenth, with Cal Crutchlow 13th and Bradley Smith 14th. Eugene Laverty finished the day in 15th despite crashing in the closing stages of FP2.
