Donald at Ulster GP but still sidelined

Aussie star Cameron Donald was at the Ulster Grand Prix but had to watch from the sidelines – his shoulder injuries sustained at the TT still not healed enough to allow him to race.

The Relentless by TAS rider said: “It’s a very complex injury and takes time to heal. I’m going through the same dramas that Neil Hodgson has suffered since his motocross crash early in the year.

“I tested the bike at Kirkistown recently but only for six laps. I rode okay and have good strength in my shoulder but no rotation so I can’t get tucked in on the bike.
“I’ve two options now – one is to have hydro-dilation which is where they inject fluid into the joint to help get the movement back into the joint, the other is to have keyhole surgery to clean the whole thing up.

“What ever happens we can’t rush it. I’ve been having physio every second day. I’ve been in the pool. The doctors thought I’d be back for the Ulster, now we’re talking Macau but the main thing is to get fit and come back strong next year.

“It was good to come back this weekend to be with the team to talk about next year. I’ve heard all the rumours that I’m moving to other teams but I think I’ll stay.
“I’m happy here (with the TAS team). It’s been a tough year but I’ve got to take things as they come. That’s the way it is in this sport sometimes.”
