Ryan Farquhar gets Rockstar image

Ireland’s top road racer Ryan Farquhar is running his own race team this year, backed by American energy drinks company Rockstar.

Last season Farquhar won the Irish 600cc and superbike road race titles, topped the Duke Road Race Rankings for the third time and finished in the top six of every one his TT races on Kenny Harker’s Kawasakis.

Farquhar (32) still has backing from Harker but will run a brace of Kawasakis under his own KMR Racing banner (named after his daughters Keeley, age four, and Mya, age one) and will again concentrate his season on the ‘big three’ international road races (north West 200, TT and Ulser GP) as well as Irish nationals plus two of the Scarborough meetings.

Farquhar said: “Running my own team is a big challenge for me but taking on the big factory teams and trying to beat them on a limited budget is a big buzz.”

He will also race an Alf’s Motorcycles Kawasaki superbike at the TT and Roger Winfield’s Paton 500 twin and Harris Suzuki GS1000 in the Classic Manx races.

Full interview with Ryan Farquhar is in MCN next week:  Feb 18
