McGee top of the times in Kells Road Races practice

1 of 1

Fresh from his Isle of Man TT debut where he had a brace of top 20 positions and a fastest lap of 123.7mph, Derek McGee has topped the time sheets and set pole position in the Superbike class for the Kells Road races tomorrow.

In almost perfect racing conditions on his Wilson Craig Honda, the Mullingar man just held off Alan Kenny, Alan Bonner and Brian McCormack and, with just 0.7 seconds separating the four of them, the stage looks set for what should be an exciting days racing. William Dunlop, still recovering from injuries sustained at the TT, took 5th place on the grid but couldn’t match the pace of the superbikes on his his CD Racing/Caffery International Yamaha R6.

In the Supersport 600 class though it was a quite different matter with Dunlop topping the tables ahead of McGee and veteran rider John Walsh, while McGee also set pole in the hugely popular Supertwin Class ahead of Conor Behan and Czech Republic resident Michal Dokoupil.  Roads close tomorrow at 11am.
