Roads: Rider of the Year - First

1 of 1

MCN’s Sports Desk rank the five riders who have impressed them most on the roads in 2016

Number 1 – Michael Dunlop

While Ian Hutchinson pushed him all the way and eventually got the better of him at the Ulster Grand Prix, Michael Dunlop was the undisputed King of the Roads in 2016.

The Ballymoney star took victory in both the Superbike and Senior races at the TT, shattering the outright lap record to raise the bar to a mind-blowing 133.962mph as he dominated with the Hawk BMW team. He finished second in the opening Supersport encounter before later getting disqualified, but rightfully took the runner-up spot in the second 600cc race.

Dunlop also won Superbike races at the North West 200, dominated the Southern 100 and took a flurry of big bike victories at a number of the Irish nationals.
