American basketball legend and sometime film star Michael Jordan has announced he will run a team of Suzuki GSX-R1000s in the AMA Superbike championship.

Keen biker Jordan owns a Ducati 998 and 999 amongst others, and the six foot six sportsman recently tried the two-seater Ducati Desmosedici MotoGP bike for size at the Valencia GP in 2004.

Riders will be Jason Pridmore, Steve Rapp and Montez Stewart. Stewart raced for the Michael Jordan Motorsports team in 2004 and returns alongside new additions Pridmore and Rapp. Pridmore is the 1997 AMA 750 Supersport champion, 2002 AMA Formula Extreme champion and 2003 FIM World Endurance champion, while Rapp won two AMA Superstock races in 2003.

The team are debuting at the Daytona Dunlop Tyre Test from January 3-5, and you can find out how they fare, alongside Brit Neil Hodgson, here.
