Neil Hodgson suffered a mixed weekend at the Virginia International Raceway round of the AMA Superbike season on August 19/20 2006, taking third in the first race on Saturday, but crashing out of the Sunday event.

The first race was won by Mat Mladin, from Suzuki team-mate Ben Spies. Hodgson made the most of a good start, and held second spot in the early stages, before holding onto a good third postition.

But on Sunday his luck changed as he lowsided out of third place on the second lap of the race. Hodgson was unhurt, but could only watch as Mladin took another win, from Aaron Yates on the Suzuki, and Miguel Duhamel on the Honda.

“I’m ok,” said Hodgson. “I don’t really know what happened. The data shows I didn’t do anything differently from the previous lap, but things can happen like that, especially on this type of surface. I was more surprised than anyone when I went sliding down the grass.”
