Bayliss flies at Brno

1 of 1

Troy Bayliss has embarrassed the rest of the World Superbike field by setting an incredibly quick lap at Pirelli’s Brno test.

The Ducati rider ended the first of three days with and amazing 2:01.5 lap set on Pirelli’s new race tyre. His time beat Noriyuki Haga’s 2005 race lap record by 2.2 seconds and was over a second faster than the next quickest rider at the test, Chris Walker.

Bayliss then went on to try Pirelli’s new qualifying tyre today, Tuesday June 13, and set the circuit’s best ever lap at 2:00.8, all despite highsiding out after just three laps on day one.

James Toseland spent the first day just testing tyres for Pirelli but today went out on a bike with a completely new PI engine management system capable of traction control.

The system is still in development but even with the traction control not turned on yet the system helped Toseland lap significantly faster than he did with the Honda system.

Suzuki’s Troy Corser failed to make the test after contracting Chicken Pox from his son.

Sebastien Charpentier crashed heavily on the first day cracking his collar bone and damaging his pelvis. He has flown to Paris for a complete checkup but is still expected to race at Misano.
