Mladin wins AMA opener

Reigning AMA super bike champion took the win at the opening round of the American super bike championship at Daytona Beach, Florida, after an intense batle with is team-mate Ben Spies.

The two riders were with each other throughout the entire race and it was only an amazing drafting manoeuvre on the final corner that left Mladin with the 0.032 second win.

Mladin let Spies take first as they went through the chicane, only so that he could drop in behind his team-mate and draft him to the line, popping out and taking the lead just before the chequered flag.

Brit Neil Hodgson just missed out on third place to Miguel Duhamel by 0.876 seconds after an intense battle with Duhamel, Jake Zemke, and brothers Roger and Tommy Hayden.
