The official Yamaha World Supersport team have confirmed that British Superbike Virgin Yamaha rider Tommy Hill is on their short list for a full time ride in World Supersport in 2008.

Tommy Hill made his debut appearance for the team at Brands Hatch two weeks ago and impressed the German squad by taking fifth place in his first ever ride on a Supersport bike.

Tommy Hill was then asked to test for the team at Magny Cours on Tuesday alongside full time rider Broc Parkes. Hill was once again impressive lapping in 2m 00s in fully wet conditions whilst Parkes’ best was a 2m 04s.

Despite Tommy Hill’s pace on the Yamaha Supersport machine he faces some tough competition to get the ride with Yamaha also chasing double World Supersport champion and current Ten Kate Honda rider Sebastien Charpentier.

Speaking to MCN Yamaha’s Wilco Zeelenberg said:

“With our original rider Kevin Curtain now gone, we have one space in the team which we need to fill.

“We are in no real hurry and are not being aggressive chasing riders. Along with Ten Kate we are one of the top teams in the championship so between us we have the choice of the best four riders in the class.

“It is still very early but naturally we are speaking with all the top guys but we will have to wait and see. We have a list of riders and on that list are Sebastian Charpentier and Tommy Hill.”
