World Supersport: Broc Parkes: "I missed him by inches"

Brands Hatch World Supersport race winner Broc Parkes revealed to MCN he came within inches of colliding with Britain’s Craig Jones who crashed out of the lead on lap five.

Broc Parkes had begun closing in on Craig Jones at the front and had to take evasive action after the Briton high sided right in front of him at the exit of the fast Clearways corner.

Speaking exclusively to MCN, Broc Parkes said: “I was catching Craig and I actually got a run on him through the last corner and I was planning on trying to make a pass in to Paddock when his rear tyre let go big time.

“I don’t think anyone saw it on TV, but we were flat out and I came so so close to collecting him.

“You could see from the lap time that I lost about 1.3 seconds but it would have been bad if I’d have hit him.”

Despite Broc Parkes’ pace this year he has endured a tough season plagued by injury and general bad luck.

Brands Hatch is one of his least favoured tracks and the 25-year-old Australian was chuffed to have secured his first long over due win of the season.

He said: “I’ve never had much luck at Brands but it all worked out OK on Sunday. With about five laps to go I had a two second lead and I thought it was too good to be true, but I just focused on not making any mistakes and got the win.

“I’m really chuffed and I just need to be ride like this every weekend.”
