World Superbike Brno test: Resurgent Yukio Kagayama goes fastest in Brno

1 of 1

Yukio Kagayama stormed to the top of the timesheets on day two of the Brno World Superbike test with impressive 2m00.4s lap around the 3.35-mile circuit on race rubber.

The Japanese Alstare Suzuki man has had a torrid 2007 season to date, plagued by injury thanks to two massive crashes at Phillip Island and Donington Park resulting in a loss confidence and a lack of results.

But riding at the Czech Republic circuit where he has secured his best results, taking the double win in 2006, has clearly given him the boost he needed.

Yukio Kagayama’ was joined by former team-mate Troy Corser at the top of the table who saved his best till last to record an identical lap time onboard his Yamaha Italia R1.

Day one pace setter Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) improved his lap time on day two, but slipped to third with Brit James Toseland (Honda) slashing a full second off his lap time to take fourth.

Italian Lorenzo Lanzi (Ducati) outgunned his team-mate Troy Bayliss on race spec tyres to take fifth, whilst Max Biaggi ended the test seventh, 0.8 seconds off his pace setting Alstare Suzuki team-mate.

Pirelli brought out the qualifiers at the end of the day, which saw Ducati’s Troy Bayliss jump to the top of the time sheets with an impressive 2m00.2s lap, nearly a second faster than his race tyre best.

James Toseland also made good use of the softer Pirelli’s to go second fastest with Lorenzo Lanzi in third 0.1 seconds behind.

Yukio Kagayama and Corser were only able to match their times on race tyres whilst Noriyuki Haga and Max Biaggi opted not to use a qualifier at all.
