Charpentier on top in Supersport qualifying

Sebastian Charpentier saved his best till last to overhaul his Ten Kate Honda team-mate Keenan Sofuoglu to end the first qualifying session in provisional pole position.

Charpentier started the day off the pace and was down in 12th position after this morning’s free practice but after changes to the bike he put himself at the top of the pile at a track where he has dominated in the past.

Sofuoglu started out as he finished off in Assen and spent the majority of the session in provisional pole until he was piped by his team-mate by just 8/100ths of a second.

Third place went to another Honda man, Katsuaki Fujiwara with the Japanese rider pushing the two Ten Kate riders hard just 0.155 seconds behind.

Fabien Foret who currently lies second in the championship rounded off the front row in fourth onboard his Kawasaki. Yamaha’s Broc Parked in fifth place with the ever improving Suzuki of Barry Veneman in sixth.

250GP man Anthony West made an impressive debut for Yamaha as stand in for the injured Kevin Curtain.

The young Australian ended the day in eighth place in only his second ride on a World Supersport bike and his first ever time at Monza.

Britain’s Craig Jones posted his fastest time on his final flying lap to end the session in 16th position.
