Wash out at Silverstone

If it’s not F1 Siverstone are not interested! It seems all they’re interested in is making money, they do not care about the fans.

Having decided to brave the rain to support our local hero JT we arrived at the circuit and paid our £45. We decided to go to Becketts Corner as this had been recommended as a good spot. We noticed that despite the wheather conditions all the stands except for the ones on the main start and finish were locked.

The only large screen TV was also on the start/finish, making it impossible to keep up with the action anywhere else on the circuit. It also seems that on certain corners the fence had been boarded to prevent you from veiwing at ground level, obviously due to Silverstone charging more for grandstand seats on F1 day (not very good for us as we could not get into these stands anyway).

Having reached Becketts corner we set up to watch the events. The full compliment at Becketts was 18 and this included 8 track officials. The sound system was rubbish, we had to walk away from the action to listen to it as the speakers were behind us. Having watched the first WSB race with admiration of the riders’ skills, we waited looking forward to the next WSB race. We watched the GSX-R Cup race which was run under the worst conditions of the day, but it was followed by the announcement that the next WSB race would be delayed for half an hour.

We waited with anticipation for our heroes only then to have it announced that the race had been cancelled due to the weather and the fact that the helicopter would not be able to fly if one of the riders had an accident.

We started to make our way out with the rain now stopped and indeed better than when the first WSB race had been run. Looking up into the sky what did we see? Silverstone’s helicopter flying people around to have a look at the circuit.

While I have every concern for the riders’ safety and would not wish the race to be run if there was any danger, it was clear that the conditions were no worse in fact better than the first race, we heard that some of the riders wanted to race so what was the problem.

Just a final thanks to all the guys who raced for the fans.

Ps. Come on Buzz (JT for WSB champ).
