Lausitzring World Supersport: Broc Parkes wins as Brits Craig Jones and Tommy Hill impress in Germany

1 of 1

Yamaha’s Broc Parkes won the battle at the front with Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofoglu to take victory in the World Supersport race at the Lausitzring.

The pair had fought all the way through the race with Sofuoglu appearing to have a problem on the last race, which allowed Parkes to secure the win.

The British pairing of Craig Jones (Honda) and Tommy Hill (Yamaha) also did their credentials no harm with a fourth and fifth to show team bosses what they are capable of as they look for rides for 2008.

Kenan Sofuoglu and Broc Parkes battled to the first corner but it was Sofuoglu who took the lead.

Craig Jones got himself in to 11th with Tommy Hill 12th from the outset, Hill soon got past his friend but Jones had other ideas.

It was three abreast coming over the start finish line for the end of lap one with Sofuoglu, Broc Parkes and Sebastien Charpentier all vying for the lead.

On lap three Craig Jones was 10th with Tommy Hill in 13th.

Broc Parkes took the lead on lap four with Sebastien Charpentier and 2007 champion Kenan Sofuoglu hot on his heels.

Lap seven saw Barry Veneman, Mauro Sanchini and Giles Boccolini all crash out together. Veneman did manage to get going again though.

Lap nine saw Kenan Sofuoglu take the lead from Broc Parkes. But Parkes was not giving up and did not allow Sofuoglu to get away, keeping the gap to within half a second.

The British pairing of Craig Jones and Tommy Hill had put themselves in to seventh and ninth place respectively by lap 10.

But on lap 12 Tommy Hill had once again got up behind Craig Jones as he got past Joan Lascorz.

Sebastien Charpentier lost his third place to Matthieu Lagrive on lap 12, but he was more than 10 seconds off leader Kenan Sofuoglu.

Lap 14 saw Craig Jones shoot up to fifth as he passed David Checa and then set about trying to catch Sebastien Charpentier.

Broc Parkes retook the lead on lap 16, but once again Sofuoglu was happy to keep the battle going as he passed Parkes just two corners later. The pair remained neck and neck for the remainder of the lap.

There were celebrations from the Honda camp as Craig Jones got himself up to fourth by taking Sebastien Charpentier on lap 17. And not wanting to be outdone, Tommy Hill having got himself up to sixth, then passed Charpentier on lap 18 for fifth.

The battle of the lead continued on lap 21 as Broc Parkes retook the lead on his Yamaha YZF-R6 as Kenan Sofuoglu ran wide at a corner.

Kenan Sofuoglu seemed to experience a problem on the final lap. The Turkish rider banged his tank and handed the win to Broc Parkes as he was unable to close in and pass him again.

The final podium spot was taken by Honda rider Matthieu Lagrive who rode hard to claim his surprise third place.
