Misano World Superbikes: Corser dominates opening free practice at Misano

Troy Corser continued the blistering pace he showed at Nurburgring two weeks ago by spending the majority of the opening one hour long free practice session at the top of the time sheets.

The Australian Yamaha Italia rider briefly traded places with Xerox Ducati man Troy Bayliss but in the final minutes stamped his authority on the Misano round with a lap time nearly half a second faster than his closest rival.

Bayliss finished up in second place with his team-mate Michel Fabrizio continuing to impress with his pace in third.

New 2009 BMW signing Ruben Xaus looked as determined and committed as ever to go fourth with Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Carlos Checa in fifth.

Arch rivals Noriyuki Haga and Max Biaggi took sixth and seventh respectively and were separated by just 6/1000ths of a second.

Fonsi Nieto was the top Alstare Suzuki rider in ninth with on form German Max Neukirchner one place back in tenth. Yukio Kagayama made his return to the paddock following his recent hand injury and finished in 14th spot.
