USA World Superbikes: Carlos Checa dips under lap record in final free practice

Carlos Checa set a new outright best lap of the Miller Motorsports Park during the final one hour long free practice session.

Using a qualifying tyre, Checa became the first man to dip under the 1min 49secs bracket with a lap time of 1min 48.883secs onboard his Hannspree Ten Kate Honda.

Troy Bayliss picked himself up from a crash to set the second fastest time with his team-mate Michel Fabrizio claiming third onboard the second Xerox Ducati 1098 F08.

Fourth place went to another Ducati man Jacob Smrtz. Smrtz has been on the pace all weekend and is clearly enjoying the track layout and high level of grip available at the circuit.

Early pace setter Troy Corser was unable to capitalise on the extra grip from his qualifying tyre and ended up going slower than he achieved on a race tyre and finished in fifth spot.

A heroic Noriyuki Haga arrived back at the track from his visit to hospital with his broken collarbone confirmed and a heavily strapped right shoulder and went on to set the 16th fastest time.
