Xerox Ducati man Michel Fabrizio continued his impressive run of form that has seen him secure six consecutive podiums in the last three rounds to take provisional pole position at a scorching Misano.

Fabrizio powered the V-twin Ducati to the top of the time sheets with a lap time of 1m37.016s to deny American Ben Spies the number one spot. Spies managed to secure second position onboard his factory Yamaha despite it being his first day of riding on the Misano circuit.

Third place went to a resurgent Yukio Kagayama who is still recovering from broken bones in his foot, but after extensive treatment by Dr Ting in America showed no side effects of his injuries.

Ten Kate Honda man Jonathan Rea rounded of the provisional front row in fourth. After this mornings Free Practice session both of Rea’s and team-mate Carlos Checa’s bikes were fitted with the new Ohlins suspension with Rea happy with the progress he is making.

Kawasaki man Broc Parkes benefitted from a new Kenny Roberts made swing arm and impressed by setting the fifth fastest time ahead of Honda men Ryuichi Kiyonari, who’s still using WP suspension and Checa.

Rounding out the second row was Noriyuki Haga who looked fast and smooth but was prevented from improving his position after being held up by traffic on his final two laps.

Brits Leon Haslam, ended the day satisfied with his new spec engine in ninth, but revealed there is still more work to do on the mapping to gain the ultimate set-up. Shane Byrne claimed 17th with Tom Sykes in 19th spot.
