Hoegee Suzuki out of World Supersport

The Hoegee Suzuki team have withdrawn from World Supersport championship with immediate effect sighting a lack of sponsorship due to the current global economic crisis as the reason for their departure.

The Dutch team was established in 2005 and in recent years has secured some impressive results. Despite the lack of backing and support compared to their factory rivals the Hoegee Suzuki GSXR-600’s were often one of the fastest through the speed trap.

In 2008 the teams number one rider Barry Veneman secured an impressive eighth place overall in the championship standings with a best result of second at Magny Cours.

Team owner Marc Hoegee said: “Despite huge efforts we simply cannot line up sponsors fast enough to allow us to continue in a responsible manner. I really do find that last part important.

“The fact we had to stop really affects me deeply. Everybody has invested a lot of energy in it. However this is the reality and we have to accept that as it is.

“I want to thank the riders and other team members very much for their huge efforts these past years and again this season.

“We fought for it, but the climate for sponsor acquisition at the moment -and not only for racing- is just very unfavourable. I also want to thank our sponsors and those who cordially helped us over the years for their support.”

Rider Barry Veneman added: “Together with Marc and the rest of the team we ‘moved mountains’ and reached the podium. I would have liked to give the successful 2008 season a proper sequel, but that’s not possible anymore.

“I’m grateful towards all team members, sponsors and partners for what we have accomplished together in the past years. It was a fantastic book, unfortunately it’s finished now.”
