Chaz Davies believes he has the potential to challenge at the front of the World Supersport Championship after signing for the BE1 Triumph team for 2010.

The 22 year old Brit rode for the well run Italian squad at the end of 2009 with impressive results and has now agreed terms to campaign a full year in the highly regarded Supersport series.

Speaking exclusively to MCN from Australia, Davies said:

“I’m excited and it’s going to be good to have some decent testing before the opening race. I’ve already ridden the bike for three races in 2009 so I feel that I can have a proper crack at it this year.

In addition to his three rides at Imola, Magny Cours and Portimao, Davies and team-mate Garry McCoy have already completed a test at Valencia in December where the focus was on advanced electronics.

“We worked a little bit on the suspension but the main area is controlling the engine braking. The Triumph does like to back in a lot so this is our main focus.

“If you look at last year Ten Kate, Yamaha and Parkalgar all had advanced electronic system to help them on corner entry and we need the same.”

During 2009 both the team and bike improved resulting in McCoy securing Triumphs first world championship podium for 40 years when he claimed third at Donington Park.

The Australian legend backed the result up with another podium at the final round in Portimao. And it’s these results that have convinced Davies that he can be a contender in 2010.

“I think we can definitely be competitive and I’m confident that the Triumph can run at the front. Garry got on the podium twice last year and I finished fourth on the bike first time out.

“I’ve got a few tracks to learn, but I want to be racing at the front and to do that I’m going to have to run with Laverty, Sofuoglu and Lascorz.”
