Eugene Laverty is on course to become an Aprilia rider in 2012, but contrary to reports on Italian websites has told MCN that he is yet to sign any contract.

The 25 year old Irishman was in advanced negotiations to join the BMW Motorrad Italia team until late last week, when the deal collapsed. He has been linked with both Castrol Honda and Aprilia in recent weeks, but now looks set to join the Italian manufacturer.

Aprilia boss Gigi Dall’Igna has made no secret about his desire to sign Laverty following his stunning rookie WSB season, but at time of writing it remains unclear where Laverty will fit in Aprilia’s line-up.

Aprilia are keen to have four bikes on the grid in 2012, two in the full factory team and two factory bikes run from the satellite PATA squad.

A decision is expected before the Portimao race this weekend and the position Laverty secures at Aprilia is almost certain to influence where Brit Leon Camier will ride next season.

2010 WSB champion Max Biaggi is already confirmed for 2012 and is mid way through a two year deal.
