British riders dominate Imola WSB test

British riders Tom Sykes, Jonathan Rea, Leon Camier and Leon Haslam ruled the one day official SBK test at Imola on Monday. The British riders secured the top four spots on the time sheets, holding off world champions Max Biaggi and Carlos Checa.

Following on from his brilliant pole position and two second places on Sunday, Sykes was once again the pace setter over a single lap.

Using new specification Pirelli tyres, lap times dropped for the majority of the field, but Sykes was able to exploit the extra grip superbly, posting a stunning 1.46.609 best – 0.139s under his pole position set on a qualifier and 0.943 under his Imola lap record set in race two.

Jonathan Rea made positive steps after a difficult race weekend to set the second fastest time onboard his Honda Superbike. It was also a very positive day for Crescent Fixi Suzuki rider Leon Camier.

The 25 year old who had a best result of eighth on Sunday went third quickest with a lap time 0.881s under his weekend best set in second qualifying.

Leon Haslam was another man on the pace following his double podium at Imola. He ended the test in fourth place onboard his BMW Motorrad S1000RR ahead of factory Aprilia man Max Biaggi.

Carlos Checa was second quickest in the morning session, but elected not to ride in the afternoon and dropped to sixth.

Eugene Laverty used the test to continue evaluating chassis set up and left with the eight fastest time.

Chaz Davies and John Hopkins finished the test in 18th and 19th places respectively after completing minimal laps due to their injuries preventing them completing any meaningful testing.
