Chaz Davies walked away from a dramatic race one crash at Imola where he spectacularly collided with Sylvain Guintoli’s Effenbert Liberty Ducati on lap two.

The ParkinGo Aprilia rider had made up seven places on the opening lap when he became involved in the aftermath of an incident involving Leon Haslam and Guintoli.

Speaking to MCN about the crash, Davies said: “I was lucky. I hit my private parts and tweaked my wrist a little bit, but I’m ok. I saw Haslam and Sylvain tangle and could see they were both off the track.

“I knew Sylvain was going to come back on track, but I thought he would either turn right or come across me, but he gassed it up a bit too hard and high sided right in front of me.

“I was ready for something, but not the high side and he was just there and I couldn’t do anything about it.”

“It’s annoying because I was in a good position at the end of the first lap and I think that looking at the times at the end of the race a top six could have been possible.

“It’s hard to say exactly where I’d have been but I don’t think I would have dropped out of the 1m49’s.”

In the second race Davies saw his aim of a top ten finish end when he made a small mistake and ran on at the final chicane. He battled back to 14th to secure his first points of his debut 2012 WSB campaign.
