WSB Qatar: Sylvain Guintoli is the 2014 World Superbike champion

Sylvain Guintoli has taken the 2014 World Superbike title with an imperious display under the floodlights at Losail. Taking his first ever double victory, the Frenchman controlled the second race from the front to win by only three points from Tom Sykes.

The Aprilia rider led from the front, making a break early in the opening stages to leave Sykes chasing him in second, with Jonathan Rea also right in the mix with the Yorkshireman. Rea was left fighting his own championship battle as well though, looking to take third from the second Aprilia of Marco Melandri.

However, Sykes was unable to keep the Northern Irishman behind him, as tyre issues in the latter stages of the race demoted him back to third at the flag, handing Rea second and third in the title.

Melandri finished fourth in the race as well as the title, just ahead of Chaz Davies and Tony Elias, while Loris Baz, so pivotal in race one, was seventh after being ran wide at the first corner.

Alex Lowes was ninth and Leon Haslam tenth, while Eugene Laverty crashed out of his last race with the Crescent Suzuki team in the early stages of the race.
