My Suomy Extreme... And Other Animals
Endowed with a mere 3 stars allowed me to walk, then ride away from a 70/80 face first crash with no bruising or damage to my face at all. everything else was bruised, but the feeling of seeing the road grind away at your face for 5 or so meters isnt somehting you easilly forget, and considering the damage, i feel i could of done the same at 100mph. Arai have some balls because they where the first helmet company to say YES to the SHARP testing, then they realised the testing rigs and new testing methods then started crying, and you can see why, their £250(?) condor only scored 2!!! however, people have got it into their heads that MORE is BETTER, and not many people understand cheaper helmets are overly engineered as a fail-safe, making them hevier and often not as attractive than big name brands. I think for one, that the sharp testing is more about destroy customer false confidence in big brand names, its only a matter of time until the same will apply to leathers and so on. So i say good on you sharp! 5 stars will always give you more understanding of a helmets safety than an ACU sticker!!!!
However, you have to also argue that the "prevent 50 motorcycle deaths a year by riders with unsafe helmets" is a bit of a false scam, as i know personaly as working as a helmet salesman (no jokes) most people who die with crappy lids wear like 20 year old things cos they think £50 for protective gear is a rip off. Loose fitting, too old or wrong size lids kill far more than "cheap materials" anyday!
