Triumph Speedmaster (2011-current)

£6,299

865cc, 60bhp, 110mph, Insurance group 12

Considering the price you get a lot of bike for your money. This ‘junior cruiser’ doesn’t feel like a lesser bike; it’s not underpowered, doesn’t feel budget, is cool and still has big bike appeal. So good and such value for money I’d question why you’d want anything bigger unless you’re a dedicated big custom fan.

Honda CBR125R (2011-Current)

£3,170

124cc, 13.1bhp, 70mph, Insurance group 6

The CBR125R has been yet another of Honda’s success stories. In its seven years of production, the sporty-looking learner 125cc has sold by the ship load all over the world, with good reason. It is easy to ride, comfortable, gives good fuel economy and, above all, it’s a Honda… For 2011 the CBR125R has been updated. The mini-emperor has new ...

Honda CBR600F ABS (2011-current)

£7,055

599cc, 100.6bhp, mph, Insurance group 14

Honda Europe was asked to produce a modern-day version of its famed CBR600F, the bike that helped kickstart the 600cc supersport arena in 1987. With blessing from Japan, the CBR600F ABS is the finished article. And very good it is too by being easy to ride, comfortable, good looking and can be ridden quickly very, very easily. It’s keenly priced, ...

Peugeot LXR125 (2010-current)

£2,499

124cc, 12.5bhp, 65mph, Insurance group

As big-wheel scooters go the Peugeot LXR125 is hard to fault – the competitive price, stable handling and a good dose of practicality add up to well-rounded package. It looks relatively stylish to boot.

Royal Enfield Clubman (2009-current)

£5,600

499cc, 28bhp, 80mph, Insurance group 9

From the café racer styling to the air-cooled India-built single-cylinder engine, the Enfield clubman is soaked with nostalgia. Even the addition of modern-day fuel injection, front disc brake and the new 5-speed unit construction engine fails to dent the projected image of an era where ‘ton-up’ street racing and smoky milk bars were the norm. For a slice of classic ...

Rieju 125 Pro Supermoto (2009-current)

£3,199

125cc, 15bhp, 73mph, Insurance group 5

Rieju’s new Marathon 125 supermoto is powered by the same engine you’ll find in Yamaha’s YZF-R125 and WR125 range, albeit fitted with a 30mm Keihin carb instead of fuel injection. Costing £3199 this Spanish-made machine is actually £400 cheaper than Yamaha’s own WR125X supermoto.

Peugeot Satelis 500 (2007-current)

£4,699

491cc, 38.9bhp, 105mph, Insurance group 9

Unlike most big scooters which aim for open road cruising ability as well as town prowess, the Peugeot Satelis maxi-scooter keeps small-scoot size and manoeuvrability. That means high speed corners and bumps are a bit hairy – but as a swift and practical commuter it’s pretty good.

Moto Guzzi Café Classic (2009-current)

£6,169

744cc, 48bhp, 120mph, Insurance group 14

The new Moto Guzzi Café Classic is a café racer version of the V7 Classic retro roadster warmly received last year. Powered by Guzzi’s small block 750 Nevada V-twin powertrain in an old school twin shock chassis, it’s a dinky, cute runaround and almost embarassingly toy-like for anyone over 5’10”. But what makes it great is how beautifully and classily ...

Yamaha V-MAX (2008-current)

£21,499

1679cc, 197bhp, 143mph, Insurance group 15

The V-Max is what happens when you mix 1679cc and nearly 200 horsepower in a motorcycle that's one part cruiser, one part sportbike - and all parts thrilling. It's difficult to explain just how quickly the V-Max builds speed. Cruise along at 30 mph in second gear, pick up the throttle and hold on tight... you'll be doing 90 mph before ...

Harley-Davidson XL1200N Nightster (2007-current)

£6,695

1200cc, 50bhp, 110mph, Insurance group 15

The Nightster is the result of a simple plan by Harley-Davidson and it’s brilliantly executed. What plan? To take the second cheapest model (Sportster 1200) in Harley-Davidson’s vast range and tweak its styling to end up with a new bike of stunning looks but still with an affordable price.   Watch the Harley-Davidson Nightster take on the Triumph Speedmaster and ...
