Croft British Superbikes: Tom Sykes heads rain and crash interrupted FP2

Tom Sykes set the fastest lap of the second Free Practice session of the day this afternoon with a time set in the opening minutes before the session was red flagged.

Sykes set a 1.21.155, a tenth slower than Shane Byrne’s time this morning, on his seventh of eight laps in total before the red flag.

And few managed to improve after Shane Byrne highsided out of the Esses and light rain began to fall just as the session was restarted after the red flag.

Sykes posted a time that was good enough to head the HM Plant Honda pairing of Leon Haslam and Cal Crutchlow just a day after Santander Yamaha announced the 22-year old had signed for the factory WSB team.

The team-mates were split by just a tenth setting low 1.21 lap times.

Karl Harris rounded out the top four ad headed a trio of Ducati’s with Camier, Rutter and the injured Byrne all in close contention.

James Ellison squeezed into the top eight for his and the Hydrex Bike Animal team’s home race weekend.
