WSB: Kawasaki uncover 2017 livery in Barcelona

World Superbike Champions Kawasaki Racing have unveiled their 2017 colours ahead of flying to Australia for the opening round of the season.

Back-to-back champion Jonathan Rea and team-mate Tom Sykes were both on hand to lift the covers off their 2017 ZX-10RR race bikes, which retain the familiar Kawasaki and Monster Energy colours of the past few seasons.

Pre-season testing went well for Rea, who topped the first outing of the year in Jerez before improving his lap time the following week to show he’ll still be the force to be reckoned with as the season gets underway at Phillip Island in two weeks’ time.

Sykes on the otherhand has been working on adapting his riding style to suit the new technical era, which doesn’t work as well with his style of aggressive braking and acceleration.

The team launch was promoted under the strapline of ‘KRT Reboot’, with the team keen not to rest on their laurels after two successful seasons.

“As you probably know 2016 was a very successful year for us,” said team boss Guim Roda. “We achieved all the objectives within our reach. Our riders Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes topped the first two positions in the overall classification and Kawasaki obtained the Manufacturers’ title for second consecutive year in the World Superbike Championship. But, after that nearly perfect season, we’re back to work to challenge again in 2017. Every season needs to start from scratch and there’s no place for old kudos. This is our message for this year and the motto of this team launch.”
