Q. Are there any common faults with the oil pumps on 1996 Kawasaki ZX-6Rs? I have just done an oil change but I think mine has packed in because the oil light won’t go out?

Mike Else, e-mail

A. I hope you haven’t done any miles on it because if the pump has stopped pumping the engine is going to get terminally damaged in short order.

However, I think it is more likely that some air has got into the system which is conning the oil warning light to stay on.

If you prime the oil filter with oil before refitting it that should cure the problem. If not, get the oil warning light circuit checked before you start ripping your engine apart.
