One down… ill-placed Gatso switched off

1 of 1

Gatso operators have been forced to switch off a camera because they could not justify where it had been placed.

The camera in Grapes Hill, Norwich, has been “temporarily decommissioned” by the Norfolk Casualty Reduction Partnership after an admission that the data they had used to choose the site may be flawed.

A spokesman said that the camera’s position had been influenced by records of crashes which turned out to be associated with junctions and ‘other circumstances’ which were unlikely to be affected or covered by the camera itself. New traffic signals at a roundabout had also not been taken into account.

Norfolk police are now reviewing camera sites throughout the county.
