U.S. biker holiday camp

1 of 1

A holiday complex for bikers is being built in Daytona, Florida offering aprtments, hotels, a Harley dealership and motorcycle shops, bars and restaurants.

The 150-acre Destination Daytona is the brainchild of Harley-Davidson dealer Bruce Rossmeyer, who will have a 109,000-square-foot dealership alongside a parts shop, maintenance school, and 20 acres of parking.

The complex aimed to be completed in time for the Daytona Bike Week, but was delayed due to hurricane weather in 2004. However it is on schedule to be operating for Biketoberfest in Autumn, 2005, and aims to offer a place for bikers to holiday every day of the year. There are plans to offer at least one big event each month at the $50-million complex, despite fears from some local traders that it will lessen the popularity and economic boost currently offered by Bike Week in downtown Daytona Beach.
