KTM has unveiled the finished pre-production version of its all-new V-twin powered Duke 990.

The bike has been seen before in a prototype form but the version unveiled at the International Motorcycle show in Milan is the first time it has been seen in a finished state.

The bike will feature KTM’s LC8 V-twin engine that has already made an appearance in the Adventure 950 big trailie but in the Duke it will be tuned for 122bhp.

The motor weighs in at just 58kg, which according to KTM is up to 20 per cent lighter than other 1000cc V-twin engines, and contributes to a low overall weight of just 179kg. The chromium molybdenum tube frame weighs in at a staggeringly low 9kg.

The Duke is expected to hit showrooms mid 2004.

For full details of the Duke and a host of other new bikes from Milan check out next week’s MCN, out September 24.
