Dougie Lampkin missed out on the final of the first round of the World Indoor Trial championship on Saturday, January 7, 2005, following problems in the qualifying round.

The British Montesa-HRC rider, who has won seven consecutive times at Sheffield, suffered two failures in zones 2 and 4. He then fell in the sixth zone, forcing him to change bike to complete the next two zones and parallel run.

“I was fully motivated and after the first five zones I was within reach of being in the final, despite knowing that the two failures I had committed until then could cost me dearly,” said Lampkin. “We’re going to carry on working and increasing our efforts because with these sorts of mistakes we won’t get anywhere when the level of competition is so high.”

Team-mate Takahisa Fujinami also missed out on the final, finishing in fifth, one place in front of Lampkin. The even was won by teenager Toni Bou, riding a Beta, just pipping Indoor Champion Adam Raga on the Gas Gas. Fellow Gas Gas rider Jeroni Fajardo finished third.
