Five in a row for Brookes

1 of 1

Josh Brookes won the opening race of the day at Cadwell Park with the Milwaukee Yamaha rider easing away from the field in the second half of the race after a safety car in the early stages. The safety car was deployed after Danny Buchan had a big crash over The Mountain.

At the restart Brookes maintained his lead with Peter Hickman offering some resistance but ultimately the local rider had to settle for an impressive second. The final step on the rostrum was taken by Billy McConnell after the Australian had a combative outing on the Smiths BMW.

In the closing laps McConnell was trailing Luke Mossey and made a hard move into Park when he dived down the inside and pushed Mossey out wide. The Quattro Plant Kawasaki rider paid a big price for the incident and fell back to sixth before losing another spot to Shane Byrne at the end.

With McConnell in second spot Tommy Bridewell forced his way through on the final lap but another aggressive move form McConnell saw him make a daring move on the way into The Mountain.
