BSB: Ellison ends 2016 season on a high

James Ellison ended what has been a challenging season with two victories at Brands Hatch, almost leading lights to flag in both of Sunday’s races.

Plagued with technical problems and the same throttle connection issued that hampered team-mate Haslam, Ellison hadn’t won a race this year despite coming close earlier in the season.

“I’ve said I had a win in me all season and this weekend we showed that with two!” he said. “I felt like I had a third one but we just got spat off in the wet first race. It’s been a long gruelling season to it was fantastic to end it with two wins. I owe a massive debt of gratitude to Peter Hickman as gave me the new soft tyre on the grid. We didn’t have a soft left and Pete did gave it to me and that’s how I finished third in the series. I would not have won that race with the hard tyre.

“It’s good for the team as we got second, third and the riders’ cup. I’m fairly happy going into next year pretty confident with where I’ll be, so hopefully I can come back and take the championship off Shakey.”

Despite Haslam missing out on the title, it was otherwise a successful weekend for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team with Peter Hickman taking victory in the opening race and a podium in the second to secure the Riders’ Cup.
